Our client is a leading reinsurance firm based in Bermuda which has gone through monumental growth over the last decade with multiple M&A transactions, an IPO and spinning of various successful side car vehicles.
Due to a number of successful number of company and reinsurance block acquisitions the company is seeking a talented Director or Senior Manager of Investment Accounting to oversee the day-to-day operations of the investment accounting team, the U.S. Statutory, U.S. GAAP and Bermuda Statutory reporting requirements, and the investment accounting control environment. In addition, this position will be responsible for researching, documenting, and implementing the accounting policy for newly selected investment opportunities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities include the following:-
- Work closely with Company's third party accounting service providers to ensure accounting and reporting of investments is performed accurately and timely.
- Work closely with CFO and Head of Finance to ensure investment accounting activities necessary to close the company's books and records are performed in a timely, efficient and well controlled manner.
- Work to produce all needed footnote disclosures for future SEC level financials.
- Lead the investment accounting professionals who are responsible for U.S. Statutory, U.S. GAAP, and Bermuda Statutory financial investment reporting.
- Oversee the investment control environment to ensure compliance with the Model Audit Rule (MAR).
- Develop and perform various analytical procedures to assist senior management in understanding the company's investment performance, relative stated strategies and objectives.
- Monitor and adjust workload across the team, as needed, to ensure that requirements are met effectively.
- Stay abreast of market conditions, investment strategies, the changing accounting literature or regulatory guidance to ensure compliance.
- Prepare investment accounting reports as needed to support finance, actuarial, tax, and investment department needs.
- Assist with requests from auditors and/or state examiners.
Education and/or Experience and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA, ACCA or similar is strongly prefered.
- a Minimum of 8+ years of experience in insurance investment accounting.
- 3+ years of management experience.
- Ability to effectively communicate with senior management across the organization.
- Knowledge of various investment types including Fixed Income, Structured Products, Derivatives, Mortgage Loans and Alternative Investments.
- Ability to multi-task and adjust quickly in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to change priorities to meet critical deadlines.
- Position requires proficiency and accuracy in using computer system databases.
- MS Word and Excel spreadsheet skills are required.
- Occasional travel necessary (5-10%)
