OJ Transforms Local Beach with The Hong Kong Cleanup

10 April 2018

by Jessica Williams

On March 23, our Hong Kong division took to a popular beach with an objective far more important than sunbathing. They pledged to clear its shores of the debris and waste materials posing harm to local wildlife, with support from renowned ecological event coordinators, The Hong Kong Cleanup.

Every day, over 16,000 tonnes of litter are thrown away in Hong Kong, and with numerous landfills already at full capacity, it is inevitable that rubbish is spilling into the region’s beauty spots. Our endeavour would be a key contribution to The Hong Kong Cleanup’s Annual Challenge – a programme designed to restore the majesty of Hong Kong’s coastal, country and city spaces throughout 2018.

In addition to removing rubbish, we collated information on what was cleared, enabling The Hong Kong Cleanup to grow their education platform with the latest data.

Group Board Director, Jonny Plews, commented “Not only did we succeed in cleaning the beach of all mess, we learned about its many vibrant ecosystems and how we were helping to protect the sanctity of life there. It was really humbling for myself and the team to be involved in something so meaningful to the environment.”
